Wasn't it in Michigan when
Wasn't it in Michigan when Mrs. Obama declared that for the first time in her life she was proud to be an American? I don't remember the quote exactly, but I remember thinking that comment was truly deplorable. Really, just a few months ago, she was for the first time, proud to be an American? Where was the press on that brilliant declaration?
Sad, very sad. Unfortunately Simon, not enough Democrats can hear you typing.
Imagine Hillary saying such things. Over at the Trail Mix, that quote was brought up and Obama supporters laughed. There was even a quote by Obama that Hillary periodically has these fits where she launches attacks or says something critical. One HRC supporter said that was so overtly sexist and no one in media made any comment. Again Obama supporters told the woman to lighten up.
It is things like that I will remember. Supporters tend to follow the leader, yes? I find Bill and Hillary in some important way, far more honest and normal -and that's a stretch if you know what I mean.
What Max Said
But cheer up, Simon. After all, Castro resigned.
And look at it this way..
Biden has now declared after Musharraf loses at the polls (in an election people said he would never allow) -US can finally change policy.
The new parties coming to power in Pakistan declare that there is NO military solution to the militants and that US forces will NEVER be allowed to enter Pakisatan.
Did you hear that Obama? Sharif says the country's problems are because it has backed US policy.
Another fine example of getting what you wished for. My point about Obama exactly.
Democrats are making their bed now and on March 4th
Simon, a Democrat I know (and I know several....LOL) saw the link of yours and said, while Obama was building his career helping poor neighborhoods in Chicago ( an admirable effort ), McCain spent how many years being tortured as a POW. And yet somehow what Obama did makes his wife hold him in the HIGHEST regard because of his sacrifice in part as a backdrop for aspirations to office he expressed in elementary school. I gave up weekends in high school to tutor disadvantaged kids from Harlem, but does that make me superior to anyone here?
Well McCain is letting a bit out of his bag and I remind everyone he said he thought Hillary would be a good President.
The Democratic Party has drank so much Kool Aid that I doubt they understand the numbers in their rank that actually do vote, and may very well vote for McCain. Today there were several reports of Black Leaders actually threatened with being voted out of office if they did not vote for Obama. As I have maintained, the strategy by Obama and media is the best weapon the Republicans have and I can think of no better available candidate than McCain, despite the many blasts he has taken from his Party. That is actually his strength come November.
Obama said color-blind, honest, vet my record, bipartisan, no personal attacks, the high road, unconventional. I would love for anyone to explain that what Obama has delivered is not exactly the opposite. I would actually prefer Oprah to Obama's wife as first lady and if you don't think she doesn't have aspirations or calls many of the shots, just take a look at their wedding picture.
Okay, enough..........
Michelle Obama...
The more I think about it, the more aggravated I get at Michelle Obama's comments. She wasn't proud of our country at any point during the Bush presidency? She wasn't proud of our country at any point during the Clinton presidency? During any point of Bush I's term? Why she would want somebody that near the center of power if she can only be proud of our country because her husband is going to somehow fundamentally change this country? Despicable. I can't figure out whether the comment is vapid, stupid, false, despicable, or some combination of the above plus more.
I've said it before, I think that Sen. Obama will be FAR easier to defeat in the general election... he'll self-destruct at some point.
Update: DRJ at Patterico backs off from his initial indignation after seeing the full clip. I'm not so sure. She appears to be speaking extemporaneously, and I am not fond of holding people to the worst possible import of their words when speaking without a script. But beyond the bare fact that she is speaking without a script, my opinion of the thrust of what she was saying did not change after watching the whole clip (which is not the whole speech, but does provide more context than the bare quote itself).
I've noticed lately how hard it seems for some people to take pride in imperfect things. I'm going to have to do a post on that soon, but I've always found it quite puzzling. EVERYTHING, and EVERYBODY, is imperfect. I know that each and every person reading this, each and every politician in this country, each and every human being on the planet is imperfect (most certainly including me), whether I know what those imperfections are for any given person doesn't matter. Keeping this in mind keeps me from putting all my hopes in any one leader, political or otherwise. Why can't more people take pride in the country, even while we acknowledge and strive to improve our faults?
Backing off backing off
Pat, I think DRJ backed off his backing off...LOL he is now indignant again.
And here is another brilliant piece from Brooks, sure to warm Simon's heat.
There's something grating
There's something grating about the tone of that article - it's not that Brooks is wrong, it's that he writes as if this is something he's observing from the outside, as if the people experiencing what he terms "OCS" are finally seeing something that he perspicaciously saw some time ago. But his own damn columns for the last year have so lovingly fondled Obama's mystique for the last year that it's hard to take that attitude seriously. Like many people, Brooks was taken in. He has evidently thought better of it - at least, for this week. Bravo. But it's a bit much to cry out to your fellow sleepers awakening, rubbing the sleep from your own eyes: "I say, chaps, what took you so long?"
Of course, that is exactly
Of course, that is exactly what I meant when I sarcastically said it would warm your heart. The man helped start the Obama derangment syndrome and now takes a weak shot at it. He thinks as though we are the puppet on his strings. LOL It more than grates me.
I think the strange link about the Patrick/Obama connection is quite chilling. Maybe it explains why Zbig doesn't need permission to go off to Syria and I now wonder what connection Rand has to the Trilad. This stuff is in the realm of conspiracy thinking, but it does make you wonder. I feel like I could use Tully to take a look and see if the connections drawn make any sense. I'm not sure Carter actually wanted to see the Shah get kicked out and I don't know how exactly Carter drew the Soviets into Afghanistan. Again, someone with far more insight can tell me how far Patrick and Obama are connected to Zbig. Do you see anything interesting in my last link?
I do note that CNN really plays up Obama brushing aside the Michelle remark and CQ has an article saying Clinton's fingerprints are all over the Patrick claim, though it is clear several media outlets have reported on the Patrick/Obama exchange for some time. I do get an uneasy feeling that there is something much larger here at work in the rise of Obama, his Columbia years and relationship with Kahladi/Zbig/Huntington and the media free pass. Am I just being paranoid, which despite my posting of global threats, is not something I regard myself as being...LOL It is one thing to be concerned how uninterested Americans are in events that eventually bite them, but domestically, not so much.
That Loud Pounding Sound You Hear...
...is me, Patrick, banging my head against my desk about Michell Obama's handing some more ammuntion to her opponents. Yeah, yeah, hindsight is 20/20, but a real pol would have said "I'm so proud of my country right now." and a great pol would have said "I've been especially proud of my country many times in my life--(reels off list for Dem voters, gives nod to Clinton, Carter, JFK, anyone else who needs reaching out to, along with some Reagan and Bush moments for the unifying factor), but this is one of my proudest moments ever."
*sigh* Another reason why, during this primary season, Your Favorite Candidate Sucks.
I can say "sucks" here, can't I? ;-)
Let's look at the larger circle
Now read this and weep. (I don't mean of course to take the article as a whole seriously, but some of the content does suggest some serious elements behind the Obama campaign and policy.)
Funny some Democrats calling McCain's wife a Steppford wife....
I also found a different rip-off by the oratory machine and I note Michelle's use of a broken souls mentioned in the article I linked above and the Free Republic article posted by Simon.
?They?re trying to bamboozle you. It?s the same old okie-doke. Y?all know about okie doke, right? ... They try to bamboozle you. Hoodwink ya. Try to hoodwink ya.?
? Barak Obama
?You?ve been hoodwinked. You?ve been had. You?ve been took. You?ve been led astray, led amok. You?ve been bamboozled.?
? Malcolm X
There are actually a number of lifts. I wonder if there is a school for this. Now I can only wonder wht Time Inc. hasn't featured an article on this..LOL
Now here's the real stuff Obama.....
"In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shank from this responsibility - I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it -- and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.
And so, my fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you - ask what you can do for your country.
My fellow citizens of the world: ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man." JFK
Maybe Michelle ought to read this to her chldren....
