Whatever
Yeah, no kidding. I left Chicago about about 7:30 last night, after a hugely enjoyable day at the FedSoc gathering, and three hours later hadn't even made it as far south as Kankakee - roads and visibility abysmal, I finally gave up and got a hotel. Which is where I am now - free wireless access! Beautiful. So I'm just here trying to catch up, trying to leverage my (26 pages!) of notes from the conference into a blog post (I'm about halfway through), and work up the nerve to get back on the road.
What's especially galling is that I skipped Judge Pryor's speech and the dinner purely because I wanted to get home, to avoid spending a night away. So if I'd known I'd have to do that anyway, I'd have stayed put in Chi town!
Sorry to hear it was such a disaster...
I thought it would be bad, but not that bad (although my belief started to revise as soon as I got on the road). That sounds as bad as my worst ever driving-in-bad-weather story, which involved a grueling six hour drive (it's three in good weather) to Madison in a blinding blizzard.
Next time you get caught in Chicago in an ice blizzard, you have an open option for a couch to crash on.
Still: worth it for a photo with your 7th Circuit hero, right? And for learning that Phyllis Schlafly and Geoff Stone could share a stage without causing a matter-antimatter reaction (even if I occasionally expected her scowl to set things on fire...).

Shh... You're letting the cat out of the bag. ;)
There's a post coming in a few minutes. :)
