Questionable writing of the day

"The reasons for the Democrats’ decline are, as we say in the business, overdetermined. That is, there are no lack of hypotheses to explain it…." Surely "there is no lack of hypotheses to explain it" or "hypotheses to explain it are not lacking"?

Are you questioning his grammar/word choice/syntax or his thesis? Because the latter-- that there are so many potential reasons to explain why the Democrats' polling numbers are dropping that it's quite unlikely that anyone could actually string together a quantitative formula that would explain it-- seems to me to be pretty reasonable.

I'm just nitpicking about his grammar—the sort of things that editors and professional writers used to catch. I agree with his thesis. :)

Yeah, and I thought merging with the NY Times and receiving their (ostensibly superior) editorial staff support was supposed to actually make the 538 articles better written...
